From Maurice, Louisiana

Our
Story

It started as one idea: keep Creole French alive by making a space where the people who still spoke it could come and talk.

The Origin

Three cousins, all bearing the proud Sinegal lineage that traces its roots back to the heart of Maurice, Louisiana, united their talents and passions to establish Louisiana Creole Culture.

It began with an event titled "Let's Talk, but in French," a brainchild of Milton, aimed at reinvigorating Creole French in Lafayette, hosted at the Culture Center. Fernest lent his creative prowess to craft the graphic designs, while Mac played a pivotal role as a financial backer and trusted advisor. The first event exceeded every expectation, and Fernest and Mac proposed making it annual, alongside smaller monthly round-table discussions.

Milton voiced his reluctance to simply follow someone else's path, and pointed to the need for a unique identity. Fernest, in his characteristically assertive way, proposed creating their own branded attire — an idea Mac heartily seconded. Milton also brought to light the widespread misinformation about Louisiana Creole culture, a subject all three of them knew intimately.

In unison, they declared, "Let's set the record straight." And that is how Louisiana Creole Culture began.
